Curator's Notes
"The Magpie" (1869)—originally titled La Pie—is Claude Monet’s largest and most celebrated winter snowscape. The masterpiece captures a solitary black magpie resting on a rustic wooden gate amidst a snow-covered landscape. The original canvas belongs to the permanent collection of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
